Scrubbing, Squeezing, Pouring, Oh My!!!

Scrubbing work in the Toddler environmental  is so much more than just washing an item!

Children practice using fine and gross motor skills by pouring, carrying, squeezing, scrubbing. They also develop concentration, coordination, organization, independence and sequencing!

Before beginning, we put our apron on in an attempt to keep our clothes dry.

Here she is learning to fill the pitcher and stop before it is too full. She must also coordinate her movements to carefully step down from the step stool and carry the pitcher of water to the bowl.

Here she is slowly and carefully pouring the water into the bowl.

Squeezing the sponge over the bowl. This takes muscles and hand/eye coordination.

Soaping the pumpkin up!

Using the sponge to scrub the pumpkin.

When we are all done, we dry the pumpkin and our work space, and pour the remaining water into the sink before removing the apron. This gets the work space ready for the next friend (who has been practicing waiting, so very patiently).
