Learning Independence Through Practical Life

"The exercises of practical life are formative activities, a work of adaptation to the environment. Such adaptation to the environment and efficient functioning therein is the very essence of a useful education." ~ Dr. Maria Montessori

The practical life lessons are the first level of work for all children and are a link to the child's home environment, aiding adaptation and orientation to the child's society and culture.  The materials involve precise movements and procedures, which aid large and fine motor development. Here are some photos of Room 1 Toddlers folding and putting away the laundry.
